Modeling
CS 359 HW1

due Monday, February 18

Your first assignment is a modeling project using Maya. For this project you are to create a cartoon-style character and put this character in a simple environment. The character needs to have a face (at least eyes and a mouth; the rest of the features are optional). The environment should be a simple version of your framework. You should make at least 10 primitive shapes for this scene, using both polygons and NURBS. The default lighting is fine, but you should assign materials and colors to the surfaces; use at least one texture map or bump map. No animation; this is a modeling exercise not an animation one. If you do animate it I will just grade the first frame.

These will be graded on three dimensions: whether you have the required features, how well you use the Maya resources, and the creativity and overall appearance of your result. "Weirdness" doesn't impress me (hey, I grew up in the 1960's); demonstrating that you have control over the tools does. Please (and this goes for all of the assignments), nothing obscene -- I might want to show these in class or to other people.

These are due on Monday, February 18. You should be able to use the handin utility to hand in a directory with your scene file and your initial framework documents.
