2007 On-campus research in computer security

Document Actions
Summer research opportunity in computer security.

There is funding for two students to work with Professor Kuperman on security research this summer.  Pay is for 8-10 weeks of on-campus work.

The project will be working with me on finishing and testing an audit library (it generates data for detection systems).  This summer we'll be finishing up the first version, testing it to see if it can detect the attacks it should (with us attacking it), and trying to get our work published in a conference.

Tasks

  1. Finish and clean up existing code
  2. Write detection modules
  3. Simulate user behavior for performance testing
  4. Simulate attacker behavior for detection testing
  5. Write up results for publication

If there is time, we'll be releasing this tool as an open source project.

If you are interested, send me an email with relevant background, your year, and CS courses taken.  Be sure to let me know if you are a major or pursuing honors in CS.  Graduating seniors are eligible for this funding.
